Dear Sir,

I have a question. I worked for a third party payroll company's loan department in Dubai. I joined the company on 22 May 2012 and moved back to India on 26 August 2012 just after three months because of some family problems. I did not inform my senior or company HR until I was in India and am again interested in working in Dubai.

My question is, can I come to Dubai or not? Nobody is giving me correct information. Some people told me I have a 2 year ban and some people told me not to come back to Dubai because I have a lifetime ban. Some people said I only have a 6 month ban. I'm very confused. What can I do?

Today I have been out of Dubai for 1.5 years and just want to know if I am banned and if it is possible to come to Dubai for work.

Hi Arshad

Bans are complicated because there are different kinds of bans and it also depends on whether your employer blacklisted you or your visa ran out and became invalid.

The most direct solution I can offer is for you to find a friend in the UAE, and give them written permission to find out if you are on the blacklist (whether or not you've been banned). They would go to the police with your full name, date of birth and passport number and find out if any complaints or debts have been lodged against you (I would fax an affidavit and a copy of your passport to the friend in the UAE). The police will be able to tell you if there are any outstanding issues that could be a problem should you return to the UAE.

There is, however, plenty of information available about this kind of thing. It will just take some research on your part.

Have a look at our Working in Dubai page, which touches on this.

Good luck!

Hi Favour,

There are different kinds of bans for different lengths in the UAE. From what you're saying it sounds like you have an Immigration Ban, which is lifelong. You don't mention whether you want to visit UAE or reside there - as I understand it you should be allowed to enter on a tourist visa. You might or might not also be subject to some fines, which you would need to pay before re-entering the country. But because of the lifelong ban you wouldn't be able to stay there permanently. If this is what you want to do I would suggest you seek advice from an immigration expert.
