I 'm thinking about living in Oslo for a while. How much would a very small bachelor flat in Oslo cost per month, or even a room in a house share - I'm not fussy. Also, what's the minimum I would need to survive in Oslo if I didn't go out much and was careful with money?

Thanks

Hi Phil

The cost of living in Norway is steep, as much as double what it is in the States. But it always depends on your own standards and lifestyle, so it's a hard question to answer somtimes.

I suggest you make a note of what you consider essentials and compare it to the table on the Expat Arrivals Cost of Living in Norway page. This will give you a good idea of the minimum amount you'll need to be comfortable.

Also check out the pages on Accommodation in Oslo for more on the cost of a small bachelor flat in Oslo. A one-room flat in the city centre will cost upwards of 6,000 NOK.

Hello, I was wondering as an American citizen how easy is it to migrate to Oslo? What does the Norwegian government require in order for U.S. citizens to live and work there, paying taxes etc.? Currently, my husband and I have some money that possibly will help us respectfully get on our feet and look into hopefully opening a small business of our own. We feel that the Norwegian culture and lifestyle is a kin to us and have been discussing this migration for a long time. Aware that the cost of living is very expensive, rent, produce etc. we believe that we can find employment that will provide us a decent income and better standard of living. Any info would be highly appreciated. W/ regards, Hermione
