Hi, I am planning to move to Ireland with family ( 2 + kid). While the discussion with my company is in progress to discuss on the salary, I am curious to know what could be the best salary to run a good life ( with 2 bhk furnished apartment / house in Dublin). Though, I have seen the breakups of the expenses, am afraid - I failed to calculate/ come to a conclusion on the expenditure. Hence thought to seek your help in this regard. Appreciate your response on this Cheers, Sathya

Sathya, Taxes etc. will eat up 50% of your gross income (that is tax + PRSI + USC etc.) assuming you will make more than 60k grozss. If you are a family of 4 in Dublin, you will prolly need close to 100k to live comfortably. You could possibly do with 80k but you would have to think before spending if you want to save anything. if you want to live paycheque to paycheque, anything lesser would also do. (I moved here last year with wife + 2young kids). If you consider sending your kid to daycare, be ready to give away another 1k per month! Driving license takes 6 months minimum and costs upwards of 500 Euros considering all the mandatory BS you have to do, even though you might be driving for 15 yrs and have a good record. The cost of insurance is extremely high. I was quoted 1600 Euros for a small 1.2L car(35-40 agegroup) with 15 yrs + driving in States and different countries in Asia. Also, unless you are on a critical skills permit, your family cant join you for an year. That and between all the Garda (Police) registrations each year that cost 300Euros and multi-entry visas which you need every year, you will be in a world of hurt for the first 3-4 years until you get a Stamp4. Oh and houses are small. Like 2 BHKs around 700 sq.ft?

Hi Typical 2 bed apartment costs e1400 to e1600 in most nice parts of city. Taxes are relatively high also as we are just out of recession. Make sure you work from net income in calcs. Other than accommodation and alcohol Dublin would be only as expensive as maybe a UK city but is much cheaper than London.
