What type of car are you thinking of importing ? You might want to look at options of buying a car once you arrive in Cape Town.
I wouldn't say cars are cheap in South Africa but it might work out worthwhile when you consider all the taxes and fees you will need to import your vehicle. You will also need to consider the time it'll take for you to get the car - it might simply be quicker to sell your old car and by an alternative when you arrive.
There are a wide range of cars available, so I am sure you can find something suitable.
