Hey Jamie,

Where you choose to base your home in Abu Dhabi will depend very much on your budget as well as your personal lifestyle preferences. Will you ber moving to Abu Dhabi alone or with a family?

Young, single expats prefer to live in central areas such as  Al Markaziyah, Madinat Zayad or the Tourist Club Area. Whereas expats moving to Abu Dhabi with children prefer family-friendly places like Karamah and Al Muroor - as the properties are larger and the neighbourhoods are in close proximity to good international schools.

I would recommend you have a read of the Areas and Suburbs in Abu Dhabi page for more information.

Let me know if you need anymore info.

I would recommed Al Reem Island, as 99% of people living there are expats. There are a lot of new towers going up, so there is always a good supply of flats. The area has a big mall, every building has top facilities such as gym and pool, and there is also a bus bringing you to the city centre, if you don't have a car. Etihad Towers on the Corniche is also a nice place where to live, with a shopping mall and nearby restaurants. Al Raha Beach is a bit more far out, but you get, well, the beach! and lots of nice facilities in the buildings. Hope this helps :) -- Laura http://abudhabidaysblog.wordpress.com

Hi--thanks in advance for your help. I will move to Abu Dhabi in August. I don't really want to buy a car. I'll work at the Emirates College of Advanced Education. I want a one-bedroom apartment close to public transportation and close to shopping. Who has recommendations? I'm an American with simple needs. Any advice will help me greatly. It's so difficult to know where to look.
