Hi, we are thinking of moving to Dubai and have a trip planned in three weeks to have a look around. My husband used to live there as a child although it's changed a lot from then. I was wondering what's best to make the most of our trip. I thought we could look around the different areas to live and my husband was going to try and get some appointments with recruitment agencies. Has anyone who has had experience of this any tips please ? Thanks

Dear Liz First of all let me congratulate on your decision to move to Dubai. As Shantalie has rightly said most move to Dubai with a job in hand, but there is no harm in moving to Dubai and then searching for one. The latter might have a better chance of landing on a more comfortable and better job than the other. Initially you can opt for a temperory accommodation and once your employment is finalized then you can search for an accommodation which suits your lifestyle as well as your job location to reduce commutation. If you need any assistance or further concerns to be addressed please mail me in detail and ill get back to you. Hi Liz,

Take a look our Areas and Suburbs of Dubai page to get an good overview of the different parts of the emirate. It will help you narrow down which areas are most suitable for you.

Most people who move out to Dubai, already have a job offer and the employer usually takes responsibility for your visa. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get a job in Dubai, but there are still opportunities for those with sought after skills and experience in particular fields. Take a look at the Expat Arrivals page on Working in Dubai for more information.

Also, when remember that employers in the Middle East include a number of benefits to lure expats over to Dubai - these include a housing allowance, transport allowance, childrens school fees and a flight home, but the particulars will depend on the position and the company. But its worth bearing these things in mind, when looking for a job and negotiating a contract.

Its great that you guys have the opportunity to visit Dubai before making the decision to move out there. Maybe, you could try to arrange meeting up with some other expats who live out there and get their take on expat life in the Middle East. Also have a read through these expat experiences of life in Dubai for more insight.

Good luck !
