Hi, I am being offered ZAR 324,893 annual salary before tax, which comes up to approx 27,000 ZAR per month before tax. Is this good enough for a family of two to live comfortably in Johannesburg? Also, how much tax would be deducted for this salary? Please let me know. Thanks, Madhu

Hi Madhu

While your salary would definitely enable you to survive quite comfortably, only you would be able to determine if it meets your living standards. Have a look at our Cost of Living in Johannesburg page to get an idea of what your expenses would be.

In terms of your question about tax, have a look at our Banking, Money and Taxes in South Africa page, as well as Taxes in South Africa. These give some important background information and will direct you to the right channels to get an estimate for your situation.

Hope these help.

Best,

Xavier

Hi Madhu This is Pratyush from India. I have done a masters in Engineering from IIT B. I would like to know how much salary should I ask for a job in the engineering sector in South Africa. This may be too much to ask for, but thank you in advance. Awaiting a reply. Pratyush

No, I would not move for that salary. Rent is expensive. Approx R8000 in a decent area. R 5000pm on food, groceries etc. Petrol is pricey too. You would be taxed approx. R4000
