Dear experts, I'm refering to the article on the salaries for expat in China. Does the table (Table for Expat Salaries in China 2011-2012)reflect base salaries only or does it includes 1) Housing 2) Cost of Living Allowance 3) Car 4) Kids Education and so on? I'm about to start contract negotiations with my employer and I need to equipped myself with these information in order to get a fair deal. I've researched some sites and housing and education is very high in China, especially in Shanghai area. So I would like to know more. Your advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

1) a 3 bedroom costs you around $1500 - $3000 USD depending on which area and and more expensive for service apartments. I looked at a 2bed 2 bath in putuo district 3 days ago which costs ¥13,000 RMB and I looked at another one in Min Hang, which costs ¥8500 RMB and Jing'An varies but somewhere in between. 2) Cost of living is similar to the US and less if you shop at local markets. Imported products are more expensive. A decent dinner is about $100-$200 RMB per person (approx $16-$30 USD). Lunch should be cheaper. 3) If you are an exec, you should get a driver + car b/c you don't want to drive here. Or just take metro and taxi. 4) International school for kids is expensive , a little more expensive than the US.
