Hello everybody, I have a job offer from Joburg and have a few questions regarding life there. I have already lived in Cape Town for a while but I live currently in Europe. The company offers a salary of 22000 Rand cost to company and I am not sure if it will be enough. I am a modest person but won´t live in a shared flat forever. I will rent my own place after a couple of month. And it should be an apartment with living room and bedroom seperated. I am a single person and just have to take care of myself. I will buy a car and that´s it. The company is based in Sandton. So my questions are: Will the salary be fine for Joburg? Can I live a normal middle class life? I am a bit worry about the security. Some people say it is more dangerous than Cape Town others say the opposit. I know that I have to avoid certain areas like Hillbrow and so on and I think I would rather live in a Security complex. But how is it during the daytime? Can I just walk around alone without beeing afraid? I heard so many horror stories which I can´t really believe. Maybe a local or an expat who lives there already for a couple of month can tell something about the situation there. I have already been to Joburg twice but always just for one day and I stayed near Midrand. I wasn´t afraid or had the feeling that it is so dangerous. Of course I have to take measures to be safe I am aware of that. It will be great if someone shares her/his experiences. Thanks you and Best regards Betti
