Hi Lehannah,

You job prospects in Shanghai will depend on your field of work, expertise, etc. While Shanghai has traditionally been a great destination for expats to find work with excellent packages for expats. Companies are now looking to hire expats only in highly-skilled positions, when they can't source someone from the local Chinese labour pool.

A knowledge of Mandarin is useful, especially for the less skilled positions. It might be worth taking a course before moving to Shanghai to improve your language skills. In most international business environments though, speaking English will be fine.

For more information on Shanghai's work environment and job market. Take a look at the Working in Shanghai page.

Good luck
