Hi all. I have a few question and will welcome any info please...
My husband has recently accepted a job offer for work in Abu Dhabi. The company are currently going through the secuirty checks for him and applying for his residency visa.
Q1.Any idea how long this normally takes? Is there different timescales for different trades? (i.e. would a teacher be processed quicker than a doctor etc, or is it 1st come 1st served?)

My son (age10)and I plan to join him as soon as possible but know that we need to wait until he is in AD before our visas can be applied for through him.
Q2. Again, any idea how long this normally takes?

It is my intention to work once we get there. The company I currently work for in the UK has an office in AD and have suggested there may be an opening for me in the AD office.
Q3.Would I be able to work on the visa issued through my husband or will I need to apply for a different visa? If I need to apply for a different visa, would I be better to come to AD on a visitors visa and make my application once in the country?

I know there are waiting lists for many of the British schools, some expressing a 6month wait. WIth this in mind I have already made enquiries. I know once a place is offered I need to pay a fee to secure the place.
Q4. What if my sons visa has not been issued by this time, will the school a) be able to offer a place & b) if so, hold the place?

I appreciate ANY advice given.

Many thanks.

Hi there

These pages will be able to answer a fair amount of your questions, and if you have any more after that, I'd be able to help in any way I can.

The information has been updated fairly recently, so should still be accurate.

It's difficult to get definite confirmation on processing times, but the embassy should be able to give you an estimate if you contact them. I have read 20 working days as quite a common figure, but I have also heard of people waiting for six weeks.

I would also suggest contacting one of the schools on our International Schools in Abu Dhbai list to find out about holding a place.

Best of luck with this,
