Our family is moving to the Constantia Area in Cape Town. I was wondering if anyone has any insights on schools in the area, and how private education is in South Africa in general.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Millie

Hi Millie,

Constantia is a very nice part of Cape Town and you will find plenty of schools there.

Private schools in Cape Town have good academic records and many students get accepted into international universities. If you are planning on settling in South Africa in the long term, it is a good idea consider South African private schools for your children.

Private schools have more freedom when it comes to choosing their curriculum and teaching methods, so you will need to do some reasearch into which schools best suit your childs needs.

For a list of private schools you can check out the Private Schools in Cape Town page. For more detailed information on schooling in the city, you should consider downloading the Expat Arrival's Cape Town Schools Guide.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions.

Good luck

Hi Millie, Constantia is a very affluent area of Cape Town and as Shantalie said there are a number of good schools. Depending on how old your kids are and whether they's boys or girls, some good schools to look into are:

Reddam
Wynberg Girls or Wynberg Boys (both government schools, but both have good reputations and offer great sports opportunities)
Constantia Waldorf School
Bishops (arguably the best boys' school in Cape Town - very prestigious, but also very expensive!) - located in Rondebosch, so may take a while to get there in traffic in the mornings
If you're looking for an international schools, there is one in Hout Bay (just "over the mountain" from Constantia) the Hout Bay International School

All the best with your school search!
