Advice for US citizen wanting to move to London UK?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: London
I am a US citizen and I've been traveling back and forth from the US and UK for the last 3 years. I have a partner in the UK and want to live here and after reading all about working here in the UK and Work Visas, I am still confused as to where to start. For instance, what is the very first step I need to take? How do I find a company willing to sponsor an American? Are there any American expats here in the UK that would want to meet me in person to give me advice?

Can a couple live on £40-50k in London?

My boyfriend and I are both from ireland but have been living in Toronto for two years. Our visas are up in October 2015 and we are looking into the possibility of moving to London, UK. We choose London because I work in fashion and hope to gain a better future for myself career wise if I move there. My boyfriend's company can move him there also. We figured we'd be lucky to be making £20k each especially at the beginning. We are optimistic as my boyfriend's company is quite decent in helping their staff move up to higher positions.

I am just wondering in case i have to lose my job, what will be my status then after..... Do i need to sell the property ?? as i believe i have 1 month to leave the country ?
