Hi all, we're thinking of moving to Kuwait in the new year. My husband has been offered a fantastic opportunity in Kuwait City. I'm just worried about the schooling there as I've heard very mixed reviews about international schools in Kuwait. Can anyone recommend any good international schools there?

Hi GlobalNomad, there are a number of international schools in Kuwait and it all depends on where you are coming from and what curriculum you'd like your children to follow. The majority of schools in Kuwait adhere to the British, American or Indian curricula, while a number of these schools also offer the International Baccalaureate programme. For an overview of the options for expats in Kuwait, have a look at our Education and Schools in Kuwait page. We will be releasing a list of international schools in Kuwait soon, so watch this space!

Hi It depends on how old your children are and what curriculum you'd like to follow. We've been here 5 years and my son goes to The English School Salmiya - it's a lovely community school that goes up to year 8 and attracts many Embassy, Military and western Oil company children due to the high level of security and the fact they welcome parental involvement through an active Parents Association. It's also the only not for profit school in Kuwait. The most important thing is that the majority of kids are expat kids which means the language of the playground is English (regardless of what some schools say, the reality is that while kids are young, their English literacy levels are low so at playtime and often in the classroom they communicate with each other in Arabic which is their mother tongue. This can be a little alienating for non arab speakers. It's not so much an issue in later years. TES has a long waiting list so don't delay. The others to look at are British School of Kuwait (BSK), Kuwait English School (KES) and New English School (NES). In the American Curriculum you can look at American International School (AIS) which as far as I know is the ONLY school in Kuwait offering the IB program. American School of Kuwait (ASK) is another one, although I haven't had reviews on it and the new player is American University School (which at the moment goes up to year 5). Good luck.
