To open a bank account in Vietnam American expats will need their passport, a copy of their work contract and some sort of initial deposit - the amount varies depending on the bank you choose. Some will also require proof of address - either proved by a lease or a utility bill.

Many banks will also let you choose the currency in which you'd like to bank in - US Dollars or Vietnamese Dong.
