Much of the expat community in Bengaluru is concentrated around areas like Cunningham Road, Levelle Road, Richmond Town and Whitefield. But because traffic can be a problem, the deciding factor when choosing a house to rent is proximity to work and schools – otherwise expats could easily waste several hours commuting every day.
Many of the best international schools in Bengaluru are either concentrated between Whitefield and Sarjapur Road or near the airport, making these areas popular with expat families.

These and other expat-friendly areas and suburbs in Bengaluru include:

Koramangala is a hub of activity; it’s full of ethnic restaurants, shopping malls, gaming arcades and libraries.

Acropolis is a mega residential complex situated right in the area's happening heart and is close to Forum Mall and St Johns Hospital. However, given that it's located next to the main road, noise levels can be very high, especially during peak office hours. Another sought-after apartment complex is St John’s Wood, near Acropolis and close to MG Road.

Good options in Sarjapur include Lake Shore Homes, Rainbow Drive and Adarsh Palm Retreat. There are several grocery stores nearby, and Koramangala is just three miles (6km) away. The area is closer to the main city than an area like Whitefield but the housing options here are more limited.

Whitefield is an IT hub that hosts the headquarters of many software companies. One of the area's most popular complexes is Palm Meadows, which offers a world-class clubhouse and pool, as well as tennis, table tennis, yoga and dance lessons.
Alternatives in the vicinity include Chaitanya Armadale, Total Environments, Sobha Apartments and Prestige Ozone. Expats usually find it easy to integrate into the communities at gated complexes like these, but good things come at a price, and rent prices for villas and apartments here are exceptionally high.

Situated close to the city's Kempegowda International Airport, most of the expats who live in Yelahanka work in the vicinity. Developments like Sobha Malachite and Prestige Monte Carlo are good places to start looking for accommodation. Several departmental stores are nearby, such as Spencer’s and Food World, and infrastructure is better than elsewhere in the area.

Other areas

Other neighbourhoods in Bengaluru favoured by expats include Benson Town, Dollars Colony, Indira Nagar, MG Road and RMV. Expats who are interested in real estate investment or want to get away from the city's bustle should look at areas on the outskirts like Mysore Road, Anekal and Devanahalli. Spacious villas by reputable builders are available here at reasonable costs.
