Charterhouse opened its doors as a pre-primary school in 1976, and today incorporates three distinct campuses for pre-primary, junior primary and senior primary for children up to Grade 7. The school is set on a lush campus in western Johannesburg and offers a good variety of extra-curricular activities such as hockey, softball and cricket as well as private classes in ballet, martial arts and golf, among others. There are a number of “green” co-curricular activities such as recycling, owl rehabilitation and gardening projects on the go. The school has a particularly good reputation for its music programmes.
What the school says
“We provide the environment and the facilities for the intellectual, moral, physical and social development of all pupils, in accordance with each child’s identified needs, abilities and potential. Conveniently situated on eighteen acres in the Honeydew area, Charterhouse caters for parents who desire a closer Teacher, Pupil, Parent relationship in an atmosphere where the individual can be recognised and developed to his/her full potential.”
Charterhouse draws on the best elements of the South African curriculum and Cambridge International Primary Programme. Cambridge exams are written in Grade 6.
The school is on the corner of Christiaan De Wet Road and Erasmus Road in Honeydew, west of the city centre on the northern edge of Weltevredenpark.
