What is an average driver's salary in Nigeria? Is a driver absolutely necessary?

In most cases, if you've come to Nigeria on a company package - which is the case with more expats than not, then your employer will foot the bill for a driver in Nigeria (some even pay for the car and the petrol). If you have to pay yourself, or if you've been just given a higher salary to cover this costs, you can anticipate spending about N25,000 per month (which is just under £100 per month).

My ex husband paid about £500 a month for his driver in Nigeria but it turned out it was his Nigerian girlfriend.

Eish, for fees that high she better have been doing something other than just driving in Nigeria! Word to the wise, be suspicious if you're hubby claims bankruptcy due to astronomical fees charged by local driver's - male or female!

A driver is absolutely necessary. If you have an accident and the see your are an expat the price for everything goes up. I have on occasion abandoned my driver and walked away. That is what I am paying him for. I am expat, & 40 years in Nigeria.

Tell me where you can get a driver for N25,000 per month? I have lived here for 40 years and the going rate is between N35,000 and N60,000. I pay N50,000. It is made up as follows: N35,00 basic N15,00 overtime. My company pays N50,00 to me and I pay my driver. I give the whole N50,000 and if he has to work over time I never get a complint because he gets the full amount if he works extra or not. I am a expat lady married to an expat.

There's no way you can get a driver for 25k in Lagos! maybe in other parts of the country. The average wage for a driver in nigeris was 35k a year ago and more recently you won't get a driver for less than 40/45k and that's without the overtime.

I was in Nigeria a month ago and can verify driver's salaries start from N25,000/month. This is the salary that my aunt was paying her driver and she works at a State owned post secondary institution.

A driver employed by an expat will probably earn more than a normal driver employed by a Nigerian - that is the truth. Yu can get N20,000 drive but they won't saty for long because they will move on as soon as they get a better offer. If you want a commited, long-term driver you should think about pay between N35,000-50,000.

As said...nigerians can get a driver for as low as 15-20k (naira)...expats from 30-35k and up. I pay mine(for my wife and kid) 45k, whereas the one i have from my company earns about 25-30k, all inclusive.
