Is salary of 4000AED enough to live in Dubai?

Dubai is becoming very expensive. 4,000 aed is a low salary. The issue with Dubai is that your nationality will determine your salary, not your skills or your experience. It's unfair but this is the reality. If you hold an Asian passport you won't get anything more than what they offered you. If you were an Asian holding a UK passport instead then you would get most likely 3 times more than what they offered. to live on that salary you will most likely have to share a room with several others people probably from the same country as you. You definitely well not find an apartment that you can pay alone. It depends whether you are used to share a room with many people or not.if you are then this won't be an issue and you may well find a bedsit at 300-500 aed per month maybe even less. Food wise there are a lot of Indian vegetarian restaurants in bur dubai and deira where you can eat cheaply. Hope this helps and good luck

hey mellow, what according to you should be min. salary to live in dubai? can you give me a rough idea that how much will be my food expenses per month? how much will be the room rent per head if i take a dual sharing(not multi sharing) room?

Dear Abish Kabra, I have been in dubai for 6 years. coming to point, with your 4000 dhs salary, you wanna save atleast 1500. rest is 2500. a decent bed space or a mansion share will cost you anywhere from 600 dhs to 900 dhs. since you do not know cooking, from middle class eatouts, assume you eat for 20 dhs a day, which makes 600 a month. now you have 1000 dhs in hand. one movie ticket will cost you 25 dhs and more. 4 movies a month cost you 100dhs. transportation cost you totally 150 dhs. internet and phone 150 dhs. ( all these are minimum usage for a middle class man) now you have 600 dhs in hand. if you drink you gotta spend minimum 20 dhs daily or if you need a girl you gotta spend 200 dhs and more...consumables will cost you 200 dhs... life is just like that...if you work for 3 years on a single visa you might save 9 lacs indian money. not a bad deal. while you live normal life. you can decrease the quality of life and save more money if you want. ask me anything in dubai.....deepucraft@gmail.com

Like I was explaining in the previous comment, it seriously depends from your culture whether 4000 is enough or not. For an European person it would not be enough, it would not even be the beginning of enough. I recently did a calculation for someone I know who was looking to move to Dubai as a single person and who would be moving from Europe the cost of living for basics that would include rent, bills, car, and house groceries/personal care, would require a salary of 16,000 Dhs per month. That excludes entertainment or personal shopping and forget about savings. For someone from the Asian continent this may be an astronomical price, but then like I explained earlier, if you are used to share your accommodation and spend 20 dhs per day on bought food then you can live on 4000 a month. It really is based on your culture. Simple as that, what's acceptable and normal for someone isn't no where near basic standard for others. There's no right or wrongs, just what you are used to. By the way I would like to know where you find cinema tickets at 25 dhs? The minimum I have always seen is 35. So considering that this website is seen from people of all cultures I think is the least to explain what costs are like from different spectrums.

Hi, Am Nigerian and 34 years of Age, currently working with an african Resturant. i am paid 4000dhs monthly, i live in sharjar and work at Financial centre. My salary barely take me through the month because i pay a rent of 1400dhs and spend at least 378dhs on metro transportation for 27days in a month. My rent is on the high side because of the cost of partition and being the first time i had to leave with people the experience was horrible. Ths is really getting me worked up because by the end of the month when i have paid all bills and still send to my parents and siblings at home i hadly get some money left to safe. what should i do? i do not get tips because i work as a hostess.
