Until 2011 the school year in Israel typically started on 1 September. However, this past year, education minister Gideon Saar announced that the year would start 5 days earlier - 26 August. It's unclear what will happen in the future, but you can bank on the beginning of the school year in Israel beginning around that time period in 2012.
