American International School of Hong Kong

With just under 1,000 students, the American International School of Hong Kong provides an American-based education for pre, primary, middle and secondary (high) school learners. The school is located in the Kowloon Tong district, and is a registered SAT testing facility.

Australian International School Hong Kong

Curriculum: Australian and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Ages: 3 to 18
Learners from Australia and New Zealand comprise more than two-thirds of the Australian International School’s student body (over 1,000 pupils). The school offers secondary students the opportunity to gain an IB Diploma or an Australian Higher School Certificate from the New South Wales Board. The facility is located in the Kowloon Tong district.

Beacon Hill School

Students who attend the Canadian International School graduate with either an IB Diploma or an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The school sits on the South side of the island, in Aberdeen. The teaching language is English, but Mandarin is promoted as a second language.

Carmel School of Hong Kong

Ages: Nursery to Grade 5
As the resident Jewish primary day school of Hong Kong, Carmel is known for its small classes and strictly Jewish admission policy. Furthermore, at least one parent must be a full-time resident in Hong Kong. This primary school feeds into ELSA High, a Jewish school for middle and secondary age students that teaches the IB curriculum.

Delia School of Canada

Ages: 3 to 18
The Delia School of Canada is located on the Eastern side of Hong Kong, in the Taikoo Shing district. Students learn in English, according to a Canadian curriculum; graduating secondary students receive a Canadian high school diploma by the Ontario Ministry of Education. English as a Second Language programmes are available to students whose first language is not English.

French International School

The French International School has both bilingual and French streams, and is also divided into French- or international-curriculum sections. The French section adheres to the French curriculum guidelines; with the ultimate goal being to equip students with the know how to enter back into the education system in France, and to prepare older students for the French 'Brevet' and 'Baccalauréat'. The international section teaches in English and follows a curriculum broadly based on that of the UK.

German Swiss International School

The German Swiss International School caters to those families looking for a German-English bilingual education for their children in an international environment. It offers two streams of education – German and English – and follows the German or British curriculum. The school is located in the Peak district of Hong Kong.

International Montessori School

Ages: 18 months to 12
Based on the Montessori Method, a teaching philosophy that emphasises doing and allows children to reach their own unique potential, the International Montessori School embraces multi-age settings. Kellet School (British International School in Hong Kong)

Now over 30 years old, the Kellet School is made up of two campuses, one primary and one secondary, with plans to expand further; a new Kowloon Bay campus set to house students to Year 13 should be finished in 2013. The Kellet School teaches an English National Curriculum, and is regarded as a leading independent school in Hong Kong.

King George V School

Curriculum: British (IGCSE) and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Ages: Year 7 to Year 13
The King George V School is a middle and secondary school that’s part of the English Schools Foundation (ESF). Vacancies can be few and far between, and waiting lists are long. Spaces are only granted to those residing in the Kowloon Peninsula catchment zone. Service and co-curricular activities are included alongside the IB curriculum.

Peak School

Curriculum: International Baccalaureate (IB)
Ages: 5 to 13
The Peak School is an ESF primary school that services non-Cantonese speaking students residing in the appropriate catchment area. There are often waiting lists associated with admissions. Children will need to demonstrate that they can speak and understand English, and write English if in Year Two or above, in order to be admitted.

Quarry Bay School

Curriculum: International Baccalaureate (IB)
Ages: 5 to 13
The Quarry Bay School is another ESF school that was recently accredited as an IB World School, meaning it upholds the PYP IB curriculum. It services those residing in the corresponding catchment zone, and boasts students of over 40 different nationalities.

Yew Chung International School

Curriculum: IGCSE (Cambridge) and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Ages: 6 months to 19
Though initially focusing on early childhood education, the Yew Chung International School now caters to middle and secondary students as well. It prepares pupils to sit for IB exams, and it qualifies as an international Cambridge examination centre. Students are taught in English, but there is also a strong Chinese studies programme.
