hello i was offered work in bahrain. i signed a contract and was told to come on visit visa until my work visa is approved. i give my passport to someone 2 months ago and i still waiting. i am paid correctly but my visit visa will end soon and i am worried that still i have no work visa. my company then say that i must leave the country for a short time when my visit visa runs out and return to bahrain on a new visit visa. they tell me i just have to wait a bit. should i be worried? how long does a work visa and cpr take? i am worried as i do not want to break the law. i have a work contract so is this ok for now?

Hi there,

In most cases employers in Bahrain can apply for generic work visas up to a year ahead of time which enables expats to start work very soon after they've signed their contract.

In your case, I would follow the advice of your employer as they have probably dealt with others in a similar position.

One thing you do need to make sure of though is that the details on the work permit you receive match those of your actual position. In Bahrain they have a habit of granting work permits with a similiar job title on - usually this doesn't pose too much of a problem until you come to the renewal stage.

I suggest you have a look as this page on Work Permits for Bahrain as it may make the situation a little clearer for you.

Best of luck.
