I'm just wondering what the best areas are in Brussels for a young professional. I'm going to be moving there to take up a job with a large international organisation which is located near the EU headquarters. Where should I look for an apartment?

Hi Kate, there are loads of different options for expat accommodation in Brussels, so it all depends on what you're after - whether it's a leafy suburban neighbourhood or something a bit more vibey. Traffic can be a problem in the city, so make sure you consider your proximity to public transport networks. For a list and explanation of the most popular expat communes in Brussels, check out our Areas and Suburbs of Brussels page. Also, for more general info on how to go about finding a place to live in Brussels, have a look at our Accommodation in Brussels page.

A good place to look for property in Brussels is immoweb.be which lists properties for rent all over Brussels.

Hello, I will be relocating to Brussels for work in Vilvoorde. Where is the best area to live in Brussels(with 2 young kids) to not have a long commute by public transport? 1/2hr maximum. Thanks in advance.

Hi Kate, Hi Ritchie, As Catherine stated it depends on your research criteria. If you are looking for a vibrant neighborhood I can advice you to look for something in Ixelles or Saint-Gilles. Etterbeek is very close from the center and the European institutions. This website http://shelterr.com can help too because you'll have a good view on Brussels' geography when lloking for your place. Ritchie in Schaerbeek maybe you'll find something pleasant around "Heliotropes" which is not too far from Vilvoorde
