Finding work as a trailing spouse in Singapore

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Singapore
I'll be coming to Singapore, as - gulp - a trailing spouse and I'm desperate to find some kind of work to fill my time. I used to be a part-time software designer, but I promise, that doesn't make me asocial. I'm open to anything, volunteer work, committee chairing, or freelance stuff. Can anyone recommend any good resources that I can consult to find something?

As an expat do you own property in your home country or purchase elsewhere?

Hi, I recently moved to France after 18 years in the Middle East. I'm still an expat just nearer to home. Since home is the UK and I don't like the rain, I decided that the South of France ticked many of my boxes. I now work in real estate and I wondered if there were many other expats like me - meaning lived away for a long time but still want to invest their money in Europe which is considered a more stable housing market. Is this true? And if it is, how do you search for properties when you're located so far away?

How do I connect with expats in India?

Expert Info

Destination: Mumbai
HI, I have a franchise opportunity that is ideal for expats in India who are financially stable or looking for a second income with flexibility. There's nothing dodgy about this and it's not a get rich scheme either, just good old fashioned work but with flexibility. Some financial investment from you would also be required. In return full marketing and technical support is provided along with annual conferences and a chance to meet with your peer group to share ideas and successes. Please send me your email if you'd like more information. Thanks Emma

Destination: Zurich
I keep reading things telling me that i'll have to recycle in Zurich, and that if not, I'll end up paying a lot for trash bags. Can anyone explain this, and explain how recycling i Zurich works. Here in South Africa you  have to take your recycling to special points around the city, if you want it collected you have to pay a private service.

Trying to decide if I should bring my 2009 Range Rover Sport with me to Zurich. My wife and my two little girls are accompanying me, so it even though I'm aware of the efficient local transport system, it still may be necessary to have private transit. Comments welcome from anyone who's experienced importing a car to Switzerland.

Choosing a health insurance provider in Switzerland?

Any advice on choosing a health insurance provider in Switzerland? We're moving to Zurich, and in the past we've always just accepted whatever provider our employer (in the US) chose for us. Does coverage differ between providers - what can we expect to pay per year per person?

Acommodation in Doha for commute to Ras Laffan

Expert Info

Destination: Qatar
Myself and my wife are due to arrive in Qatar in the next couple of months and we were looking for accommodation around the Doha area. As I will be working in Ras Laffan, I wanted to know what would be the best suited residential areas to stay in as I understand there are not many big cities close to Ras Laffan. I have already researched some accommodation through www.mannzili.com and Qatar Living which seem to be the only two sites around in Qatar and have been quite usefull. Is there any more places that you would recommend for me to search?

What's it like working in Qatar?

Expert Info

Destination: Qatar
I'm very seriously considering a job offer I have for Qatar, but I want to get a better idea of what the work environment would be like. Is the language a problem, are their long hours involved, are people generally pretty diligent - or is it a lackadaisacal, lazy work culture?

Groups for Women in Qatar

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Qatar
Hi-

My husband has been offered jobs in both Abu Dhabi and Qatar, and as the salaries are relatively similar, we're trying to decide in which city we'd be able to have a better lifestyle. As I'll have to give up my job, and likely won't be working initially in either destination, it's important to me to find out about making friends in both Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Can anyone comment on the social scene in Qatar and let me know if there's any groups/clubs where there's opportunities to meet other like-minded expat women.

Thanks :)

Salary Expectations in Qatar

Expert Info

Destination: Qatar
Hi-

My company is looking to send me to Doha to start-up a Middle Eastern branch of our processing plant (thought, I'd mainly be doing client services work).

They've offered me a package of 30,000 QAR, excluding accommoation and transport. Is these a good enough salary to live a decent life in Qatar and to save money? What other inclusions should I negotiate.

Any advice you can give would be helpful.

Hello. I am planning on relocating to Dubai. I am would really appreciate some advice on what to expect - in particular what is the lifestyle like, is Dubai unbearibly hot? Is there much to do at weekends, do expats leave the city? Is there a good expat scene, what are most expats like! I am quite excited about the idea of relocating to Dubai and would love to hear some first-hand advice. Where do most expats live in Dubai? Do people live in apartments or in houses. Look forward to hopefully hearing from someone. Tom
