My husband and I are moving with our little girl (age 8) to Amsterdam this September. My husband's employer has offered to fly us over so we can acquaint ourselves with the city and start to look for housing. Can anyone indicate which neighborhoods of Amsterdam are the best for families looking for a easy-going lifestyle outside the helter-skelter of the city? Green space is a big plus, as is pedestrian-friendly streets and public space.

If you're income is up to speed, than Oud Zuid is a great neighbourhood in Amsterdam to consider. This is a popular area with western expats who prefer something on the posh side that's not too far outside the Centrum (city centre). The British International School is nearby and there's plenty of parks and playgrounds - so it's super child-friendly.

Lots of families live here, so the vibe is peaceful. Costs can be high though, so again, make sure you can afford it before signing a lease or appeal to your employer for some sort of accommodation allowance.
