I have fallen in love with a Belgian and we are thinking about marrying next year. I need some advice. The man I am marrying is receiving incapacity benefit and we are unsure how getting married will affect his benefit. I am working in the UK but of course will not have a job when I move and will be looking for one. I am in the process of selling my house so will have some money to start me off. I am interested in retraining, I do have a degree but feel I want to make a fresh start with a new career. Where can I go to get information about the questions I am asking? Would I be entitled to help with retraining or any benefits if I cannot find a job quickly. I am currently working hard to learn Flemish and Dutch but really need some detailed information about benefits etc Thank you helen

Yes you can register as seeking work and get free training including language courses. I would have thought your Belgian partner should be able to find these details out for you, it differs according to which of the 3 regions you would be in. You cannot however claim unemployment benefit in Belgium, as you haven't worked here.
