Hi, I am a tourist guide in Croatia and I have extensive experience in the tourism industry. I speak Croatian, German and English, and I started to learn Norwegian. I'm moving to Oslo in November 2013th. I need to find any kind of work with little knowledge of Norwegian. On the internet, I have not found such job offers (manual labor, cleaning the house or hotel, etc.) Can you give me a hint where/what to look? Thank you very much, Best regards, Matija

Hi Matija

Unfortunately there are very few shortcuts to getting a job in Norway. Your chances depend on your education, your previous experience and, crucially, your ability to speak Norwegian.

Most of the jobs that may not put as much of an emphasis on speaking Norwegian tend to be ones that noone wants to do, or highly-specialised, high end jobs with a scarcity of applicants. These tend to be in the oil and gas industries.

You can have a look at some job sites in the meantime, but these are mostly going to be in Norwegian and many of them are likely to need you to be in the country for an interview.

In the meantime, have a look at our Working in Norway page for some more comprehensive advice, as well as our Working in Oslo page.

Best of luck,

Xavier
