Hello,

I have lived in Romania for almost 5 years with my family. My husband and my kids have Romanian citizenship. I have a permit to stay in Romania. I understand that after 5 years in Romania, I'm entitled to apply for a Romanian passport subject to a language test. Where can I take this test? Are there any examples of the test?

Thanks

Hi M,

How proficient is your Romanian?

From what I've read, the language test is quite informal and tests only a basic grasp of the Romanian language.

There's a lot of contradictory information online about this, but it looks like your language proficiency will be 'tested' when you visit the government office in Bucharest to take your oath to the Romanian government. At this point, you'll need to be able to recite the national anthem, and you'll be asked some questions. So, nothing as major as sitting down for a written test.

The best thing to do would be to submit your papers and follow the process given to you by the immigration office.
