Hi everyone

I’m British but living and working in Qatar. I may relocate to Mombasa soon but im looking for some advice on income tax on earnings.

i see that it’s capped at 30% but is there any relief for expats if you stay a short time or can it be claimed back.

As my current salary is tax free I’d prefer not to have to give 30% away if I come.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Andy,

This Expat Arrivals page on banking, money and taxes in Kenya might provide some information.

From what I can see, there's no way around it. Even non-residents will have to pay tax for an income derived from Kenya. There is some tax relief if your income falls below a certain threshold, however most expat salaries are higher than this threshold.

That being said, it might be best to speak to a tax expert.
