Hi there,

Moving from Australia to Dallas, Texas in a couple of months. We are moving with our two children aged 11 and 13. What are the best suburbs for a family ?

We live in a small town in Oz so we are looking for a similar place with a strong sense of community. Obviously, safety is also a priority so an area with a low crime rate is also very important.

Finally, we need to be close to good public schools as we can't really afford to pay lots for private or international schooling for the girls.

You'll find that Dallas caters well for those with children. Houses are generally large so can accommodate families, and there are lots of good public and private schools in the city.

The first thing you should do as an expat parent is decide where you want you child to be schooled. It is important that where you choose to live falls into the correct school district that allows you child to attend the school of their choice.

There are number of family-friendly suburbs in Dallas, for example Southlake, which is close to a number of great schools and lots of large housing options. You'll find in these types of areas competition for school places is particularly high, so get in early with your applications.
