as an expat what is the minimum time we need to work for an employer before changing job?

If you're on an Employment Pass the minimum period of employment in Malaysia is two years, but this figure can change depending on the industry sector you are in. In which sector are you working? If you're on a temporary employment pass, this minimum does not apply. If you're living in Malaysia on a professional visit pass, you have to work for the company who employed you, you're not allowed to be directly employed by a Malaysian company. Which visa are you there on?

Furthermore, if you wish to change jobs and have one of the first two types of passes, there's a minimum three month "cooling-off" period that's enforced, though this chunk of time can be waived by the MID if your current employer signs a release letter or if proper justification is made.

Hi Anonymous

You are probably classified as a foreign worker, which means that you cannot be in the country for more than five years or change employer unless you have special permission from the Ministry of Home Affairs. I don't think it is possible, but you should make an appointment at the Ministry of Home Affairs to see what your options are.

anonymous @17:35 your sal is lesser, living cost for expats is not cheaper as you would expect, your expenditure may be 2000 to 4000 depending on sharing or individual stay. work and get experience of another 3 yrs and then try for salary above 10 to 20K for better savings, but living conditions here are better than your everyday struggle in bangalore...
