Hi - I am an insurance professional. I have been offered a salary of 54000 QR in Doha, of which 42,000 is basic wage, 10000 accommodation allowance and the balance for transport and communication. Apart from this the company will give me 21000 QR for education for each child, I have 4 kids. One month gratuity (Basic wage) after a year and two months bonus - this is the basic wage only. Is this a good salary ? The rent of a suitable villa is 20000 QR a month - to maintain our standard of living. The cost of school fees is 45000 QR per child, so we will be forking out ( 45000 -21000) x 4 = 96000 QR per year on education and 240,000 on rent. What do you reckon. I'm from Sydney. Mucho gracias James

Hi Xavier and friends Thanks for your reply. What do the children who do not get a place in schools do in Qatar ? What exactly happens in the home schooling centre ? Any idea what is the average waiting time for children before they get a place in a school they have applied to ? best regards James

Hi there

On the whole, the cost of living in Doha is significantly cheaper than Sydney, as you may know. I see that you've already done some calculations but perhaps have a look at our Cost of Living in Doha and Cost of Living in Qatar pages if you'd like a bit more information on costs.

Our Education and Schools in Qatar and Education and Schools in Doha pages are also worth looking at, and give a rough idea of what you can expect to pay as well as what your options are.

While the amount you will be receiving sounds very reasonable to me, and your question is understandable, the answer is very subjective and depends on your own expectations. Personally, I always take the option that would make for the best story (within reason, of course).

Best of luck, whichever decision you end up making.

Xavier
