Giving birth in Stavanger, Norway

Hi, We are moving to Stavanger for my husband's job. Decision is whether to go before or after birth of first baby. Do you think midwives/Drs will speak English? How long do they normally keep you in hospital after birth. Are there any big differences between birthing in UK and Norway? Thanks in advance Catriona

Norway has one of the best healthcare systems in the world - so you'll certainly be in good hands. Doctors do generally speak good English as well.

While Norway does have a heavily subsidised healthcare system, it is not free like the care you get on the NHS in the UK. Many expats and Norwegians too, choose to look at the option of private healthcare, simply to avoid long waiting times for treatment.
