Hi there

My husband and I are looking at spending a few years of our retirement in Italy. Given that neither of us speak the language, if we could get any advice on finding housing in Italy it would very much be appreciated.

Kind regards,

Belinda

Hi Belinda, In Italy the cost of houses are very expensive; similar like Lagos or Abuja or PHC. Especially in the North. The best way is to find house in the South in regions like Sicily, Calabria, Puglia. You could find there some old house that you can rebuild and if these are not very close the sea, you can spend few money and have a good life. But there is an important thing to consider: Italian people isn't ready yet to understand the abroad mentality. Still lot of people are racist above all because in these last years there is a wild immigration from Africa and big part of these people believe that all people that arrive from Africa is without legal permit. The most open mentality there is in great city as Milano, Roma, Torino, Bologna,Firenze, etc. But I think that Italy is a great country where spend part of retirement. Take care and Kind Regards Roberto

It is strongly advisable using the services of a real estate broker, ensuring s/he is duly qualified and registered in compliance with the Italian law and therefore practising legally.
