Does anyone in the forum know what is required for a western expat to work as a therapist, psychotherapist, psychologist in Taiwan? Additionally, I would like to own or be the controlling Director (if expat's cannot be majority owners) of this therapy company to allow for a private practice style of office. I am American and speak English only. I am interested in Taiwan and having my practice in Taipei, but I am very open to other city suggestions if there is a location outside Taipei that has ample English language expats or locals. I looked through the forum here but this specific question doesn't seem to be here yet (or I can't locate it).
Thank you to anyone who can assist.
Hello!
That move sounds most exciting! I wish you all the best with your entrepreneurial adventure! What draws you to Taiwan? I do not speak from personal experience, but I understand that expats can own a company in Taiwan. Many long-term residents do start their own business. Expat Arrivals does have pages on Working in Taiwan and in Taipei too, but these are more general, and your question is quite specific on working as a psychologist.
Often, regarding qualifications, it’s a good idea to contact the nearest Taiwan embassy to you to find out what they equate to – they likely can direct you to the official resources you may need for starting a business, too. Have you spoken to any legal advisors or anyone familiar with running a business in Taiwan?
Kind regards,
Claire
