Hi Janet
Unless you have an EU passport, you will need a visa to live in Italy and work from home.
Have a look at the page Work permits for Italy and Visas for more information.
Also make sure to familiarise yourself with the environment, by having a look at Working in Italy and Doing Business in Italy.
